Description
Aromatic polyurethane (PU) develops yellowing upon exposure to UV light. To mitigate the
yellowing, PU adds benzotriazole UV absorbers (BZT UVA) to block out UV light. Chiguard®
R-455 is a newly introduced BZT UVA, which bring UV protection to next level.
Chiguard® R-455 is a UV absorber from the benzotriazole series, and is the first line of defense against UV rays in coatings and plastics. The molecules of Chigurad® R-455 have a primary diol structure, which makes it capable of a diol chain extender and can undergo chemical cross-linking reactions with substances such as isocyanates, amino resins, and organic siloxanes. The additive UV absorbers used in existing coatings will migrate to the coating surface over time or be easily extracted by solvents, which reduces the long-term weather resistance of the coating. Chigurad® R-455 will undergo chemical cross-linking with the hardener, which can completely solve this problem and achieve the requirements of ultra-long-term weather resistance. In the field of thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers (TPU), Chiguard® R-455 will react with isocyanates to embed it into the polyurethane main chain and permanently become a part of the polyurethane polymer, completely solving the problem of UV absorber blooming that is often observed in TPU, and can greatly improve the long-term light yellowing resistance of TPU. Reactive UV absorber Chiguard® R-455 can be widely used in two-component polyurethane coatings, amino resin paint, special ultra-long-lasting weather-resistant coatings, water-based polyurethane resin synthesis, TPU synthesis, E-TPU, TPU prepolymer and other industrial fields.
